Solarpack inaugurated the solar photovoltaic plant Pozo Almonte Solar, located in Tarapacá, in the First Region of Chile. And Pozo Almonte Solar adds an additional 60,000MWh to the more than 106,000MWh generated annually by the rest of its facilities in this region.

The 25MW of Pozo Almonte Solar will during the day provide 13% of the electricity demand of the mining company Doña Inés de Collahuasi and it will generate 60,000MWh of clean energy per year, the equivalent used by 25,000 households during the same period. It will also prevent 50,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Jorge Gómez, Collahuasi's Executive Chairman, assured that "this project is a landmark to our company because it contributes to its development in a social, economical and environentaly sustainabale way. This diversification of our energy matrix is part of our company's Energy Eficiency Program."

Pablo Burgos, CEO of Solarpack, commented: "the start of operations at Pozo Almonte is another important milestone for Solarpack and the development of the photovoltaic solar energy in Chile. It represents the consolidation of our business in this country and the materialization of Solarpack's bet for Chile by the end of 2008. We consider being the first solar plant of its size to provide energy into Chile's SING a great success and it demonstrates the idionety and competitiveness of this type of projects for this region. Counting with a partner like Collahuasi is strategic and it represents the best example of the competitiveness and reality of the photovoltaic solar energy in this country".
